Accessing Videos Through Your Television
Most people use the Internet for basic tasks, such as chatting, emails and light browsing. The reality is that the Internet is a powerful tool for information and content and makes it easier for everyone to access both. Most households watch on average 2 to 3 hours of TV per day, but not many of these households are aware of platforms that make it easier, cheaper and more convenient to watch their favorite shows. Currently, there are a few products on the market that stream Internet content and play it back through your television. The two companies taking charge of this industry are Apple and Google.
Apple TV
This platform is has been around for 2-3 years thus far and makes use of a small black box, which connects to the back of your LCD or Plasma TV. When you buy media content off of iTunes or download it from another source to your desktop/notebook, the Apple TV streams the content right from your system and plays it back on your television. You can even play HD movies. The system also has other features to playback music or digital photo albums.
Google TV
Google TV provides a very similar product to the Apple TV, but is much less developed due to the fact that it was just launched in October 2010. Using a small box, the user can type in searches, which scour the Web for content to download and playback through your television. Similar to the Apple TV, users can send email, browse and playback music and photos.
